Yorkshire and Zimbabwean Wedding Ceremony
Yorkshire Wedding Ceremony with International Relations
It was in York at the Shambles Kitchen where Sarah and Daniel’s eyes met over a loaf! Whilst eyeing up the menu, Sarah’s eyes were drawn towards a dark haired beardy guy with a weird accent (Zimbabwean) that was working there and indeed Daniel’s beard started twitching each time he saw the Yorkshire lass come in for her regular sandwich! However, although they had found their dish of the day, a bit of bumbling around was solved by them identifying each other on Tinder!! Sarah immediately spotted the beard and shouted ‘this is the guy from the kitchen’!!
Flying the Yorkshire Flag!
Sarah and Dan chose the venue of The Salix Yurts just out side of York City Centre. The Yurts are a permanent fixture and the 2 yurts are linked together with a bar and lounge area and a dining and function section. As the Yurts are set on the grounds of a farm and camping site, there is plenty of room for outdoor ceremonies and outdoor activities! Lee and his team from Louisianna Bars always provide a brilliant service at the Yurts. They always go that bit further to ensure the day goes smoothly and that everybody is fully refreshed. There was even a mobile bar in the outdoor ceremony area for guests to enjoy a drink during the service. Lee’s cocktail skills are an incredible sight to see and taste and the team from Louisianna Weddings always ensures that everything is set up and runs perfectly on the day. I absolutely love working with these guys and have had many a good night out with them when we’re off duty! The Yurts also has wonderful pods in The Little Hide for guests to sleep in.
Wedding singalong – I bless the rains down in Africa!
Sarah and Dan wanted a fun ceremony that involved their guests and was very relaxed. As Sarah was a true Yorkshire Lass and Dan a Zimbabwean Fellow, they found that there were quite a few cultural differences between them when they met but then soon discovered that they both shared a love of travelling. It became a big part of their lives and relationship and so we included travelling as a fun and relevant theme to the ceremony.
Here is a brief outline of some of the elements we put into the ceremony to make it truly Sarah and Dan :- Walking in with Yorkshire and Zimbabwe flags to Toto’s song – Africa – Packing a travel bag with relevant items connected to their story – Comedy moment of pretending to read a history war book by groom as a joke – Singing of the Zimbabwean National Anthem by all – Jurassic Park themed Ring Warming Ceremony with Dinosaurs! – Ring Exchange and Vows
Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire!
After the ceremony, the guests headed back to the Yurts from the ceremony area to carry on drinking the wonderful gins and cocktails provided by Louisianna Bars. Sarah and Dan were the first to have a go on the Archery Range and the September weather was perfect for guests to sit outside in whilst the food was prepared by The Shambles Kitchen. For a time, Dan had worked at this food establishment (hence met Sarah) and so his old boss Simon came not only a guest to the wedding but also to oversee the catering. The guests were seated in the Yurts for the food and I was honoured to be invited as one of these guests so got to sample the amazing culinary delights that Simon and his team provided.
Following speeches and cutting of the cake, the dancing went on into the night in the Yurts!
Wedding Ceremony Testimonial
Louisa crafted and performed the most personal and entertaining ceremony for our wedding. She was absolutely incredible from start to finish.
The process for coming up with ideas for the ceremony was really fun, and her hard work made it feel effortless for us, which was really appreciated given how many other things we were juggling.
On the day itself it went down an absolute storm with our friends and family. We had so many comments from them saying how much they enjoyed the ceremony and how very personal it was.
We would recommend Louisa to absolutely everybody, she was an integral part of the day and it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good without her.
Louisa, we owe you a pint
